Peking rugs date to the 17th century. Production ceased around the 1920’s. Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian motifs are popular.
The rugs are characterized by a central design floating on an empty field surrounded by borders. The designs are generally restrained, elegant and minimalist. Colors featured include gold, black and navy.
